China under the CCP isn’t getting worse, it’s always been bad. The persecution of the Uighur ethnic minority in Xinjiang has attracted international condemnation, but it’s nothing new. The Chinese Communist Party has made persecution a cornerstone of its rule. From thought rectification in Yan’an, to “liberating” Tibet, to the Cultural Revolution, to the Tiananmen massacre, to killing Falun Gong practitioners, to now also oppressing Uighurs.
